The Effectiveness of Twitter Ads for your business brand

You've heard a lot about Twitter ads lately, with many people tout the ads as being an amazing revenue generator for companies. In this post, we dwell on the effectiveness of Twitter ads for your business.

Of course, They're no doubt very effective in driving users to websites and various other online properties, but what are they?

In short, Twitter Ads work like Google's Adwords platform; you create your ads targeting specific keywords or hashtags relevant to your niche market. Next, you set a maximum budget, then wait until you start receiving clicks on those ads.

In essence, it works like this: If someone sees one of your hashtagged tweets and uses that hashtag to tweet back at you (i.e “I love @awesomesauce!”), their tweet will appear directly above all others in the feed. And, if you've paid for that specific hashtag to appear in your tweet's “targeting information”, this is when Twitter will charge you a few cents (or dollars) per click.

Needless to say, the process of monetizing any social network is always tricky, and Twitter ads are no different than Google AdWords or Facebook Ads when it comes to how many people actually click them on.

Well-crafted ads should have a Click Through Rate of 3% or higher; meaning 1 out of every 33 people who see an ad will click on it (the average CTR for Facebook Ads is around 0.1%).

With all this being said, there are still ways to make them work for businesses big, but first;

You might have heard of pay-per-click(PPC), this is an ideal method for those eCommerce stores or websites selling products directly where you only pay when a user clicks on your listing.

You also have Pay-Per-Impression (PPI) which would be more suited if you wanted your tweets to be seen by as many users as possible. This is great for exposure and awareness of your brand!

With Twitter Ads, you can also target your audience based on their interests or keywords they are using in their tweets if they are interacting with certain accounts, etc.

And Promoted Events:

Surely everyone has been invited to events, however, they don't always go do try to make yourself stand out with tweets advertising your party or gathering, so remember this method of advertisement!

How can I use Twitter Ads?

Twitter adverts are really affordable compared to other platforms as well.  You can create a campaign for as little as $5 per day! This is really low cost and will be beneficial for businesses of any size.

Even if you haven't got the money to invest in Twitter Ads just yet, they also allow you to run them on a trial basis so you can see how successful it is without actually spending anything. You could even try it out now by creating a free account and seeing what happens.

If you don't like the results then try changing your campaign around or targeting different users – it doesn't hurt to give it a go. Who knows? Maybe your business might benefit from this method after all.

Twitter advertises itself as the cheapest platform to advertise on (compared to Facebook & other platforms). They report that an advertiser commonly sees a 33% higher click-through rate from advertisements on Twitter than normal text Tweets.

With a 30 day historical average at $1.20pCPM advertising costs 64% less than Facebook ($2.00pCPM). It's clear that this platform has greater potential with cheaper costs, making it more ideal for small businesses.

What are some ways to use Twitter ads?

For Businesses –  Twitter ads allow you to create brand awareness with calls-to-action, driving people back to your site and ultimately generating sales. They also make it easy for you to connect with new audiences as well as find out what content is interesting to your customers.

With Twitter adverts we can tell our followers where we're going or what events/sales we have coming up, this gets the word out there and increases customer awareness of our business! These types of social media advertising campaigns allow us a unique way to connect with our audience and give them content that interests them.

For example, if you were launching an online shop selling furniture and you were giving a discount or having free delivery on all orders made in December, then this is an ideal way to get the word out there. It would also encourage your customers to share and retweet your adverts so that other users who may not have seen it can benefit from your offer!

For Small businesses –  Twitter advertising gives you the opportunity to gain leads at low costs. With PPC advertising with Twitter ads, you are able to pay per engagement rather than your usual cost per click, making it much more affordable.

Your tweets will reach more people as a result of this(as they are listed in sidebars). When choosing PPI's for Twitter ads there are two main ways: You can either choose for Promoted Tweets and Promoted Accounts or you could choose for Promoted Trends.

Promoted Tweets are your typical tweets that appear in the timelines of users, they usually stand out from other tweets with a ‘promoted' tag at the beginning and a small dollar amount next to them. This advertises your tweet to many more users than normal.

You can also promote specific accounts (as in business accounts) to gain followers & likes, promotions can include free delivery or discounts, etc. The two main way of advertising on Twitter is through PPC ( Pay-Per-Click) or PPI's(Pay-Per-Impression).

PPC Advert – Users see it as a Tweet listing, you pay when they click!

PPI Advert –  Users see it in their timeline or explore page, you pay when they see it!

Why you should advertise on Twitter?

  • It's fast and easy to get your message across. You have 140 characters, so make it count!
  • It's free advertising. You don't have to pay for anything other than the nominal cost of your ad that will show up in people's feeds or searches. People are already checking this website out daily–why not take advantage of that?

Even if they never see your ad, it could encourage them to check out what else is available on this site, especially since they'll know they're getting quality information about things like alternative medicine, healthy living, and holistic health.

  • Many people trust recommendations from others more than from brands. When you advertise on Twitter, people will trust your message more because they know that the advice is coming from real people like themselves and not from a company trying to sell them something.
  • A lot of Twitter users are influencers in their industry or community. Let's say that I have 100 followers on Twitter and I'm a social worker at a hospital by day who does yoga ashtanga by night.

If my followers see an ad about how doing yoga can help athletes take care of their injuries, they might click it based on whom it comes from: someone they follow, someone whose work they respect, someone who understands where their interests lie.

Now imagine if you're an advertising company with millions of followers. You potentially have millions of influencers who are seeing your message in their feeds, as ads.

  • People like free things! Who doesn't? They're more likely to click on an ad if it has no cost associated with it for them.
  • Twitter advertising gives your business the opportunity to be seen by a wider audience than just those following you.
  • Twitter ads make it easy to listen & respond to customer feedback, adverts such as promoted tweets allow you to reply quickly without having to go through any complicated processes.
  • When you use Twitter Ads to promote your business or your blog post you have control over who sees what kind of content. This means that you can target the audience that is most likely going to be interested in what you're promoting. You can also target people by location.

For example, if I'm advertising a blog post about how to start a small business, I might want to advertise it only in places where there are a lot of potential entrepreneurs and people with small businesses.

The best Twitter Ads strategy is one that promotes a blog post on a topic that your followers are already following. This will give them incentives to click on it so they can read more. It's also wise to use hashtags so the ad becomes embedded in the trending topics that are being talked about.

Twitter Analysis Tools

Twitter also offers some awesome analysis tools to help you know what your audience likes. For example, if somebody clicks on one of your tweets a couple of times but never follows through with anything else, you can use the analytics to find out why and maybe fix it.

It might be as simple as they didn't like how something looked or didn't click through because of an error message. Or perhaps they don't like your link format. Whatever it is, it's good to know where you went wrong so you can fix it for next time!

Common Questions about Twitter Ads

How do I create an effective Twitter Ad?

Just like any other form of media: make sure that you have a catchy headline and interesting body text so that people will read the whole thing.

Make sure your product or service is mentioned in the ad, as well as a number for people to call or a URL for them to visit. Make it simple and short but still interesting enough to get someone's attention.

Another thing you can do is take advantage of Twitter's list feature. If you made a special list called ” Clients “, you could create an ad that targeted that specific group! You could probably also create an ad based on what people are posting about–for instance, if I created a list called ” my roommates ” and I had ten followers on it who all lived together at my place, I would probably be able to target their ads specifically.

As long as your product or service is appealing and useful in some way, it shouldn't be too hard to create an ad that would appeal to your target audience.

What should my Twitter Profile be about? When I first started out, I made my profile all about me: what school I went to, where I worked and lived, what kind of books I read, and movies I saw.

But now it's all about The British Medical Journal. That way, when people see it in their feeds or on Twitter search, they'll know right away that this is a medical website. You want to direct traffic and have people know as soon as possible that you're the one providing them with the information they need.

Do Twitter Ads cost money? How much do they cost?

It depends on a few factors: how many followers you have and how targeted your audience is. For instance, if I'm a business in Canada that wants people in the United States to see my advertisement, it's going to cost more than if I am targeting an audience of ten people who live around me.

Some accounts are worth more than others–for example, businesses that are popular (e.g., the Huffington Post ) or celebrities are usually worth more for account holders because they're already being followed by hundreds of thousands of people on Twitter!

How do I know what kind of account will help advertisers the most?

Well, you can look at some examples. The Huffington Post has over 800 thousand followers, so their ads must be pretty effective and useful for that many people to want to follow them.

But other accounts that don't have as many followers have to be more specific and target a smaller group in order to attract advertisers.

How do I know if my Twitter Ads are effective?

They show you how many people clicked on your ad, and how much it cost you for each click. If the number of clicks is particularly high, then it must have been effective! But remember: relevance has a big part to play in their success.

As the saying goes, “you've got to spend money to make money,” but if your product or service isn't really useful or interesting, no one will care enough to even click on it in the first place.
